The Triangle,Swindon

New Picture (12)

The Triangle, a 42-home development, is the first scheme by Hab Oakus, the joint venture between Kevin McCloud’s development company, Hab, and housing group GreenSquare. The houses will be built to Code 4 in the Code for Sustainable Homes with several being constructed to Code 5 level.

The scheme consists of two and two-and-a-half storey terraces containing two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes around a central village green. The east and west terraces are both terminated by three-storey corner blocks, each containing three apartments, providing focal points as you enter and leave the site

Pinewood Structures provided the timber frame for this scheme and Hemcrete® is being used for the walls. Tradical Hemcrete is a hemp and lime wall thermal walling system that absorbs CO2 in its manufacture and so has negative embodied CO2. For a typical wall section, the material will have 130kg CO2/m2 less than traditional brick and block.

This project uses Hemcrete® walls (site cast Lime and hemp mixture) which needed extensive co-ordination between all parties to overcome design and build challenges.

The scheme is due to be part of the Grand Designs TV series with the first episode on

December 8th 2011
