Bromley Medical Centre Flats

London Borough of Bromley, Kent

As part of a large strategic project by Asprey Homes in Bromley, Pinewood Structures was contracted to design, supply and erect a medical centre situated near the Bromley Care Homes development. The overall development area is set within 24 acres and Pinewood Structures was involved in the four phases of this entire project; the construction of care homes, the medical centre, around 500 private one and two bedroom apartments and small/medium family housing.

The last phase of the development was the construction of flats over a medical centre in Bromley, known as the Bromley Common Practice. Timber frame was commissioned for 24 flats in total over a medical centre with a total 1,744 m².

Pinewood was contracted to supply its Quantum™ system which has factory fitted insulation to external walls within the studs. The Quantum™ Insulated Panel system is a high performance wall specification with factory fitted PIR insulation within the external panels offering a u-value in this case of 0.19W/m²/K when used with a masonry outer skin and 15mm plasterboard on the inside. Pinewoods unique specification offers very low thermal bridging and is able to achieve Y- values as low as 0.05*.

Land Director Elliott Bance of Asprey Homes comments: "The Bromley Common Project is designed to the highest quality and has been commended for its architectural style by the local authority. Our approach to the aesthetics of the site was to ensure that no difference can be seen between the affordable phases, accessed from Turpington Lane and the private phases at Crown Lane. The result can be seen in the completed street scene which uses a variety of materials including slate roofs with interesting roof lines and pitches, rural brickwork and weather boarded elevations with Juliet balconies set within landscaped grounds.

This year, we have completed the production of over 130 dwellings across a number of developments and sales for next year are already ahead of target. Our plans for Crown Lane will develop as the site evolves but we know the project will play an important role within the local community, bringing much needed new family homes to a popular and well located area."
